A course will take place one night per week for six weeks during Spring commencing on Wednesday 22nd February in the James O’ Keeffe Institute, Newmarket from 7p.m. to 9p.m. The aim of the course will be to seek to understand why Austen's novels are still popular 200 years since first publication, and what is it that resonates with us in the 21st century. We will explore and contrast each novel and its various themes through discussion and close reading. Themes such as women's role in regency society, the importance of money, family bonds, or lack thereof, and how and to what extent these themes have changed since. This course will be facilitated by a U.C.C graduate and the first book that will be looked at will be Northanger Abbey.
