Rural Community Health Project

The North Cork Rural Community Health Project

The North Cork Rural Community Health project established in 2022 works across the rural areas of North Cork and is a collaboration between the HSE,  IRD Duhallow, Ballyhoura Development, and Avondhu Blackwater.

The project aims to work with and enhance existing services to improve the health and wellbeing of a community through a series of health-focused initiatives that build on existing services and facilities.

The project will work to identify and address gaps in service provision locally in a collaborative manner and will support suicide prevention, intervention and postvention in Rural communities in North Cork through:

  • Organising, delivering, and signposting to activities that promote good mental and physical health and wellbeing
  • Planning and delivery of suicide prevention training
  • Establishment of a suicide postvention network
  • Supporting individuals and communities bereaved by suicide

The project welcomes referrals from healthcare professionals, community, and voluntary groups as well as self-referrals.
