  • Sibshop Ireland will be facilitating a 1 day event where 2 information seminars will be facilitated for parents and care givers and a workshop will be facilitated for siblings of children with disabilities. The first seminar is “Communication & General Behavioural Strategies” Information Session which will help parents by providing useful tips on everything from dealing with a tantrum by a child with special needs to other challenging behaviour that is normal for a child with a disability. The second seminar is “Sibling Support & What siblings want parents to know”. Both seminars will be run consecutively so parents can attend both or one if they so wish. The siblings attending the workshops will be cared for by qualified staff while parents attend the seminar.
  • SIBSHOP WORKSHOPS (2.5 hours duration)
  • Sibshops are fun workshops for siblings of children with special needs. The workshops are aimed at children aged between 8-12 years. They are lively, with games and discussions. It provides a great opportunity for siblings to get together and chat about some of the difficulties and the positives of having a sibling with special needs, have some fun and learn about the services their brothers and sisters receive.
  • With regard to registering the children, the criteria is that they are siblings of a child with specials or additional needs. that can be a sibling with an intellectual disability, autism, epilepsy or a sibling that may spend a lot of the time in hospital etc.
  • The other criteria is that the sibling must be between the ages of 7-12 or 13. We usually say between 2nd to 6th class in school but are flexible to include 1st years and also if a parent really feels a child from 1st class would hugely benefit.
  • Maximum children attending the Sibshop Workshop would be 12 as we find this works best in order to give all the children a chance to contribute to the discussions and games. We also recommend only one sibling from each family attend the Sibshop, this allows them to talk freely during the discussions.
