Sliabh Luachra Summer School – Dance

Bruach na Carraige, Rockchapel

Authentic Irish Traditional Solo Step Dancing Workshops directed by Sarah and Maurice O’ Keeffe. 

Sarah and Maurice are Ireland’s leading young traditional step-dancers continuing the tradition of the old dancing masters. They will teach the authentic old traditional step dances and explain the history behind them.

Learn some of the old traditional dances, which have vanished from the tradition, such as the “Three Sea Captains”. The Three Sea Captains goes back to the battle of Navarino in 1827, the steps in the dance depict the movement of ships in battle. These dances have almost vanished from our tradition.

This will take place over five days from 2p.m. to 6p.m. in Bruach na Carraige Heritage Centre.

Traditional dancing teachers Maurice and Sarah O' Keeffe, will run traditional and sean nós dancing classes in Bruach Na Carraige , Rockchapel. Registration will be on Friday the 16th of September at 6pm.
