Leader Programme

LEADER (Liaisons entre actions de developpement de l’économie rurale) was established by the European Commission in 1991 and stands for ‘Links between actions of rural development’.

It promotes sustainable development in Europe’s rural areas addressing economic, social and environmental concerns. LEADER was designed to aid the development of sustainable rural communities following the reforms of the Common Agricultural Policy.

LEADER 14-20 is due to be delivered across a series of Rolling and Closed Calls. IRD Duhallow is the implementing partner for areas in North Cork, Kerry and South Cork and is working with each of the Local Community Development Committees in each of these areas.

The new programme will focus on the following themes and sub themes.

  • Economic Development, Enterprise Development & Job Creation
  • Rural Tourism
  • Enterprise Development
  • Rural Towns
  • Broadband
  • Social Inclusion
  • Basic Services Targeted at Hard to Reach Communities
  • Rural Youth
  • Rural Environment
  • Protection and Sustainable use of Water Resources
  • Protection and Improvement of Local Biodiversity
  • Development of Renewable Energy
