Duhallow is in a unique position to have 3 pipe bands in Millstreet, Cullen and Newmarket

Duhallow is in a unique position to have 3 pipe bands in Millstreet, Cullen and Newmarket, carrying on a long tradition of piping in the Duhallow Region. These three pipe bands are nationally and internationally renowned for their music and marches. IRD Duhallow has supported all three bands in the past few years through LEADER Funding.

In 2009, Millstreet Pipe Band marked its 50th year leading the Rose of Tralee. They have also played at the Michael Collins Commemoration Service at Béal na mBláth. Those interested in more information should contact 086-8966163 or any band member.

Newmarket Pipe Band played at many events during the year which included the Newmarket and Kanturk Festivals, Duhallow GAA Finals along with the opening of Newmarket Pitch and Putt. IRD Duhallow helped fund new uniforms and a book on the history of Newmarket Pipe Band through the support of LEADER funding. Cullen Pipe Band, founded in 1941, have been invited to participate in international festivals, in Italy, France, Spain & the prestigious St.Patrick´s Day Parade in New York City. The Band annually also competes at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow. LEADER funding from IRD Duhallow over the years has enabled Cullen Pipe Band to fund a new practice hall, new uniforms, new equipment and musical instruments.
