Following the success of our Community Governance Training, we are now offering a second round of training for community groups in the local area. Over four weeks, participants will learn about the essentials of running a community group and everything involved in its day-to-day management and governance. The training starts on 2nd September. It will encourage the following:
• Better decision-making
Training helps committee members and trustees understand their roles, responsibilities, and how to make informed, fair decisions. This reduces confusion and conflict within the group.
• Legal and regulatory compliance
Community groups often have legal obligations (e.g., around finances, safeguarding, data protection). Governance training ensures members know what’s required so the group avoids risks, penalties, or reputational damage.
• More effective leadership
Training develops leadership skills, helping people chair meetings well, manage teams, and plan strategically instead of just reacting to day-to-day issues.
• Improved funding opportunities
Funders are more likely to support groups that demonstrate strong governance. Training helps groups meet funding criteria and show they can manage money responsibly.
• Sustainability and long-term planning
Governance training encourages forward thinking—succession planning, risk management, and setting long-term goals—so the group can survive beyond its current members.
• Increased confidence and participation
Volunteers often feel more confident and engaged when they understand how things work, which can improve retention and attract new members.
• Risk management
It helps groups identify and manage risks (financial, legal, reputational), reducing the chance of crises.
To ensure a fair geographical spread and due to limited number of places available on the course, your place will not be confirmed until you receive a confirmation call from someone in the office. The deadline for registration is August 21st 2026
