Classes will take place at IRD Duhallow, James O’Keeffe Institute, for just €20. This three-evening course will equip farmers with essential digital skills for both everyday computer use and farm management.

Evening one focuses on basic computer skills, including turning a computer on and off properly, using the mouse, keyboard, desktop, and icons, creating and saving files (such as a “Farm Records” folder), printing, using USB sticks, browsing the internet safely, setting up an email account (Gmail recommended), and sending or receiving emails with attachments like farm maps or certificates.

Evening two explores internet tools for farmers, such as using Google effectively for agricultural topics (e.g., “calf scours treatment” or “weather Kerry”), identifying safe websites, navigating DoneDeal.ie to find livestock, machinery, or fencing, creating an account and posting a sample ad, using WhatsApp to share photos or documents, and avoiding scams or fake listings.

Evening three covers secure access to AgFood.ie, navigating its key services—calf registration, movement certificates, nitrates records, and BISS/ANC applications—troubleshooting common problems like lost passwords or expired certificates, and an introduction to online banking for farming. The course will also highlight farm safety and digital security practices, along with an overview of useful farming apps including Herdwatch, PastureBase, and Met Éireann.
