Lismire is a small village in the Parish of Kanturk in Northern Duhallow. It is about 3 miles from Newmarket and about 5 miles from Kanturk and Freemount. Lismire is a developing community with the influx of new residents in recent years. Lismire has a deep sense of history with Kilmacow Cemetery located towards the east of Lismire. This was the site of a 6th century religious settlement, a church, holy well and possibly underground chambers. It is also on the site of an earlier ring fort.
Lismire Community Association participate in the local St. Patrick’s Day Parades in Kanturk and Newmarket and have been very successful with their creative ideas. The Association run a Santa Day for the local children and also erected a live crib which young and old enjoyed. A Craft Fair is also run and held in the local Community Centre.
